Know what applies

A discount is not the same as finance.

Government incentives may reduce the upfront cost of eligible equipment. Certificate schemes create a tradable entitlement; a rebate is a programme benefit subject to its rules. Finance spreads payments over time and remains a separate credit agreement with fees and approval conditions.

Small-scale technology certificates

Eligible rooftop solar systems can create small-scale technology certificates (STCs) under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme. Assigning the right to create certificates to a registered agent may reduce the upfront price in your quote.

The number and value of certificates depend on factors including location, installation date and system details. This is a certificate-based discount, not a fixed cash rebate paid to every homeowner.

Cheaper Home Batteries Program

This Australian Government programme supports eligible small-scale batteries connected to new or existing rooftop solar. It operates through the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme, with a discount generally provided through the retailer or installer.

Your battery, installation and property must meet the applicable rules. Eligibility and certificate calculations can change, so we confirm the relevant incentive in your written quote rather than promise a fixed saving.

Virtual power plant incentive

Eligible NSW battery owners may receive an incentive for joining a participating virtual power plant (VPP). A VPP connects batteries so stored energy can be supplied to the electricity grid when needed. This is separate from purchasing the battery itself.

Your battery and electricity retailer must be compatible with a participating provider. Review when the provider can access your battery, your backup reserve, payment arrangements and exit conditions. Off-grid batteries cannot join a VPP.

What we check for your quote

We assess your property and proposed equipment, then explain which incentives may apply. Your written quote should distinguish the system price, any incentive allowance, eligibility conditions and the amount you pay.

Questions

Common questions

Does every solar or battery installation qualify?

No. Eligibility depends on the scheme, equipment, installation and property. We assess your proposed system and explain any applicable allowance in your quote. No incentive is guaranteed before the relevant requirements are confirmed.

Can I receive both solar and battery incentives?

Separate allowances may apply to eligible solar and battery equipment, but each has its own rules. Whether incentives can be combined must be checked for your installation and any previous claims.

Do I have to join a virtual power plant?

VPP participation is required for the NSW VPP incentive. VPP capability and joining a VPP are different requirements; check the current federal battery rules and any retailer contract separately. Consider your blackout reserve and when a provider may access your battery before signing.

Are incentives the same as a feed-in tariff?

No. A feed-in tariff is an electricity retailer's payment or credit for eligible energy exported to the grid. It is separate from an installation incentive and depends on your electricity plan.

Can finance be used for an eligible installation?

Finance may be available separately, subject to eligibility, credit approval, fees and provider terms. A government incentive does not guarantee finance approval.
